Here we have a USN fixed bale helmet in relic condition. The helmet shell has been painted a least twice as the different layers of paint can clearly be seen.
At some point it has had a white/grey band paint around the rim. This was common practice for the Normandy invasion so Navy crew could easily be reconised compared to infantry units.
It has then had a complete coat of grey/blue over the top.
The crazing on the paintwork is a true sign of age to original paintwork.
Both bales are present and undamaged, but the straps are long gone.
